Lindy Hop

Lindy hop is a rhythmic, improvised dance that grew out of Charleston in the 20's and 30's.  It's danced to swing-era jazz, and vintage lindy hop clips can be seen in many movie clips from the 30's, 40's, and 50's.  It has an 8-count basic, called the swingout, and is enjoyed today by dancers of all ages!

While lindy hop grew famous for the incredible air-steps made famous by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers (see video below), today there are a whole range of subtle, musical, connection-oriented moves that never require two feet off the floor (see other video below).  There are still some incredible air-steps happening in competitions and performances today, but as exciting as choreography is, what really drives us is solid social dancing, which is just what we teach!
