Competitions, Performances, and Class Recaps

These videos are all from the past (Hello, 2011!) but just in case you feel nostalgic, here they are!

Improvised Performance at
Baltimore Blues Summit

In early July, we were honored to teach at the Baltimore Blues Summit's two year anniversary.  To kick off the weekend, we did a performance at the Mobtown Ballroom.  We choreographed the solo bit at the beginning; after that, it was all improvised.  The song is "I Heard the Marchin of the Drum," by C.W. Stoneking.

Class Recap:
"Marchin of the Drum" by Students

After we did our performance at Baltimore Blues Summit, we went home and put a routine together to teach to students.  The focus of the class was to to explore how we approach musicality, in terms of rhythms, motives, and phrases.  Here's a video of some of our students showing what they learned!

Lindy Choreography:
"Little Coquette"

Early in our tour, we linked up with the Solomon Douglas band for a week.  During this leg of the trip, we were fortunate enough to teach and perform at most of the dances we attended, so we did several performances of this choreography.  This is Bob Crosby's Bobcats' version of the song, and we're performing at the Georgia Tech Dance Association dance in Atlanta, GA.

Class Recap:
Dynamic Close Embrace and Transitions

At the Midtown Low Down in St. Louis, we taught several classes on dynamic close embrace, transitions, and general jazzy goodness.  Rather than recap with words, we did a dancing demo to show the concepts in motion.

Class Recap:
"Ain't No Sweet Man" Routine

At the shining-new-star of an event known as Nevermore Jazz Ball in St. Louis, we taught a sequence to one of the most patient and good-natured groups we've ever taught.  The song is "Ain't No Sweet Man Worth the Salt of My Tears,"  by the Rhythm Junkies.  We later adapted this and finished it, and used it as a showcase piece at Bambloozled.
